I am saddened and angered at the attacks on the French people and property. Freedom of speech isn’t always comfortable, but without it, our beliefs and thoughts are never challenged. Attacking one area of free speech negates free speech for everyone. Violence is the coward’s tool; however, it often emboldens the victims, and rallies support for those victimized and their cause.

My thoughts and prayers are with the immediate victims and their families, and for all the people of France who had to endure this expression of hate.

Dear Citizens of France and family members of the deceased citizens,

I am a Muslim who was born and raised in Turkey. For the last 15 years I have lived in the United States.

I wanted to take a few moments and express my deepest condolences over the passing of Charlie Hebdo employees and French Citizens who were killed in a brutal attack to Hyper Cacher kosher grocery store.

I and my family condemn such attacks to defenseless people. I would like to say that such terror attacks have no place not only in Islam but in any religion.

Islam, our role model Prophet Mohammad (PBUH), and our guide Holy Qur’an, they all teach us to live in peace and harmony with other faith members.

We pray for the deceased citizens of France, their a family and France.

As for the terrorist who conducted these attacks; they have nothing to do with Islam and sincere Muslims.

Please accept our condolences and not forget that "terrorists can not be Muslims, and Muslims can not be terrorists".

With Sympathy,

IAO & Family

Bonjour,

I am not French but I am a lover of France and the french culture. My heart goes out to the journalists at Charlie Hebdo and the two policemen who were brutally murdered by these Muslim terrorists who have no regard for human life. My heart also goes out to the victims of today’s vicious attack at a Jewish deli in the heart of the Jewish district of Paris.
The good news is that the Kuachi Brothers are dead as well as the terrorist at the deli.

Viva La France!

I am sorry but I do not speak French and therefore I must express my outrage over the senseless attack that occurred today and to express my sadness and grief over the loss of life because they tried to make people think and reflect something that I find rare these days. So to the those who still are here please for the sake of those who died keep making people think and reflect it is what makes your country and people who they are in the tradition of Jean Paul Sarte. I will pray that you will come through this trial stronger.
God Bless and keep you all safe

I lived and studied in France as a young woman. The French medical system took care of my sick husband at no charge.
My feelings at this outrage and the continuing danger are impossible to express strongly enough.
We in the US and around the world mourn for your dead and hope that the criminals will be caught ALIVE(so they will not be shahids) and prosecuted in French courts.

Dearest French people, our hearts and prayers are with you as you grieve the losses of this weekend due to the expression of hatred towards free speach and freedom. I am so proud to see your citizens who stand firm and tall in opposition of that hatred. You are an inspiration to other countries around the world.

Sincerely,

D.B

I wish to add my condolences to those from the millions of Americans who are appalled and saddened at the brutal, senseless murders at Charlie Hebdo and the kosher marketplace in Paris. I applaud the courage of the police woman and the Muslim police officer, who were also killed in this savage attack, and the police forces who tracked down the perpetrators. I am also heartened by the millions who marched today for freedom in France, in defiance of terror. We are with you! Je suis Charlie!
Sincerely,

We were in Paris just three months ago. We had a wonderful time. The French people were so welcoming, friendly and helpful in spite of our feeble attempts at speaking our very limited French. During our stay, we were in the area near the Charlie attack as well as the one at the market on Friday. It saddens me people are so limited in their thinking that they feel so compelled to extinguish voices and pens which differ from their own. Don’t give in! Continue to express yourself without regard to the most extreme in our society.
JE SUIS CHARLIE!

I am a Francophile Californian who spent two weeks in France last year, after a long absence. My heart is full and aches for this week’s events that occurred in France but have wounded us all. As a teacher of many beautiful, creative and talented young men and women from France, who follow different or no religious traditions, I wish to express my sympathy and reaffirm my solidarity with them and with all of the people of France.
We must all take heart at the thought that freedom of speech and expression will continue to exist in the face of fear and extremism. I hold the police officers, the editors and cartoonists, and the other innocent victims in my heart.
I continue to hope for a day when, in the words of another champion of creative expression, who was cut down by violence:
Imagine all the people/living life in peace/you may say I’m a dreamer/but I’m not the only one/I hope some day....
Most people I know can finish this lyric; we must find a way to live it.
Nous sommes Charlie.

Peace.

Dear French persons everywhere, friends:

There is outrage and deep sadness here for the atrocity in Paris. This was like watching the horrors of 9-11 all over again. Terrible, grotesque hatred possessed by the few for the freedom loving and peaceful many.
The American people are with you 100%.

I spent happy months in Paris as a young woman back in the late 60s. Your people, your writers and artists shaped much of my thinking as I grew older. Now I hope we can support you after this terrible moment last week. I shed many tears last Wednesday, perhaps more than I did on 9/11, because of the ideal of free speech which is at stake here and which we all can support. I sincerely hope we can all move forward toward a more just and sane society.
Mes amis, je suis desole.

"The Directors Guild of America stands in solidarity with the families of the victims, the people of France and citizens around the world who will not be cowed by extremists seeking to undermine our inalienable right to the free and open expression of ideas. This despicable act will not silence the millions of journalists, artists and filmmakers who will continue to speak their mind, share their ideas and promote freedom of speech."

"Today, as a Guild, we reaffirm our belief in the free and open expression of ideas and in the pact all of us must make with each other, not to agree, but to be tolerant of that with which we disagree. We stand with those, wherever they are, who write and speak their minds, which is a brave and necessary thing to do. And we hope for ourselves and wish for others the resolve never to be silenced by fear."

My thoughts and prayers are with the victims of these horrible and cowardly attacks. The response of the French people, millions marching with pens and pencils held high, has turned the terrorists’ acts into pathetic gestures and caused that beautiful French lady in New York Harbor to stand a little taller and hold her torch higher. Vive La France!

“The next American generation grants you their full support. Restez fort! I pray for les gens Français.” -L.S.

“America will always stand with France in its toughest times. Vive la France!” -M.R.

“You have stood with us in our time of need. So now, we stand with you, and we send our condolences.” -M.

“We know France will make it through this difficult time with grace and strength.” -J.M.
