Fleur Pellerin visit to the United States [fr]

Fleur Pellerin, French Minister of Culture and Communication, will visit Los Angeles from February 3 to 6 to promote the expansion of the Tax Rebate for International Productions.

The main purpose of Fleur Pellerin’s first visit to the United States as minister of culture and communication will be to promote the Tax Rebate for International Productions*, which the government has strengthened in order to promote the shooting of foreign films in France. The rate therefore increased from 20% to 30% on January 1, 2016, and its ceiling was raised to €30 million.

The minister will also take advantage of her visit to the studios to reaffirm the wealth of expertise that makes France a center for cinema and audiovisual storytelling. Renowned for their quality and diversity, French television series, such as “Engrenages” (“Spiral”), "Les Revenants" ("The Returned"), “Témoins” (“Witnesses”) and “Braquo,” are being increasingly exported abroad.
In order build on this dynamism and develop, over time, an outstanding television drama sector, the minister will meet with academics specializing in screenwriting for television.

Meetings with American film professionals will also provide an opportunity to discuss her ongoing struggle with the European Commission with respect to the copyright debate as well as France’s proposals to ensure that the internet giants pay the necessary royalties to artists and authors.

Lastly, Fleur Pellerin will meet with French artists living in California and will honor actress, writer, director Julie Delpy and with France’s Order of Arts and Letters during a ceremony that will take place on Thursday, February 4, 2016, at the Consulate General of France.

* The Tax Rebate for International Productions relates to projects initiated by a foreign company that are wholly or partly made in France. It made it possible for example to produce the film “Minions,” the second most successful animated movie in the world. Films such as Woody Allen’s “Magic in the Moon Light” and Stephen Frears’ “The Program” also benefited from the rebate.
