Sister City with El Monte, California

Marcq-en-Barœul is a city in the north of France, near Lille and close to the Belgian border. It is especially famous for its frequent horse races. It has also taken quite a large part to the development of French gastronomy, since lots of bakeries have decided to set up there. Fun fact; the city has seen the birth of the first caramel candy “Carambar” in 1954, now famous in the entire country and in Europe (more than 1 billion are eaten in France each year). The Carambar Candy are famous for their little question-jokes written inside the wrappers, and are now declined in many flavours.
